...yeah, I'm fucked.

March 8th, 2008

Afternoon on the campus of the prestigious Ohtori Academy was melting slowly, in vermilion shades of sky, into a coral sunset, lit by a sun whose shade reminded the aubergine-eyed high school student of blood. Sweet blood, and the manner in which it ran, akin to water, but ever so slightly slower, given its natural tendencies of coagulation. Pursuant to that thought, it was to be noted that Shiori's own outfit, reminiscent of a French military uniform at the start of the 19th century, more specifically, during the times of the Revolution, was a deep maroon, though slightly tinged a dark, dark burgundy-esque violet, the color of her own hair. How very wonderfully perfect.

Coming to the large double doors carved from stone, most likely a flawless white marble, Shiori placed her left hand upon the left door's handle. A small pool of water, somehow suspended vertically behind the handle, allowed forth one drop of water to fall upon a black ring worn on her ring finger, a ring carved with a fuchsia rose seal. From knowing the people she did, Shiori was well aware the the "normal" rings were meant to be white with a lighter roseate carving of the rose seal, but where was the fun in acting as someone expected you to?

In hand was a saber meant for fencing, one she knew very well to be used by the one who had once regarded her as a paramour, the "leopard", as she was known to so many on the Ohtori campus. And even then, Shiori could only find one description for the creature: "Poor thing." She spoke to herself, relaxing her grip on the hilt ever so slightly in her complacence. The black rose placed at her breast, in place of heart, seemed to provide comfort in such fact.

Black, immaculately shined uniform shoes, styled along with the rest of her Dueling outfit, clicked on the last of the seeming thousands of steps which constituted the spiral staircase, the gateway to the heavens, and more importantly, the entryway to the Dueling arena situated in the skies.

The entire circular arena was marked by a scarlet rendition of the rose seal, indeed the same mark she bore in the black ring upon her left ring finger. However, the markings would be obscured by a perfectly spaced square of one hundred school desks - ten desks by ten desks, with space left between each for the Duelists' purposes. Upon each desk lay a closed golden locket, the locket's front in the shape of a rose. Shiori was well aware of what lay inside, and even more aware of what the item had meant to her, what it had meant to that person...

'Once upon a time.'

Wasn't that how every story was meant to begin?

Or was it 'a long, long time ago'? Nay. Those events were not so far in the past.

"And so the Revolution began."
